This was a really BIG rock!

 the "Blue Hole" that appeared to have no bottom - I sat on the edge, but didn't venture in

 some people built homes out of what they could find

 this lady lived at the top of a very steep hill overlooking the whole island - unfortunately she could no longer venture down the hill to leave her home
